Our Mission

The mission of the Child Welfare Training Consortium (Training Consortium) at the University of South Florida is to promote the health, safety and well-being of children and their families by developing, analyzing and disseminating state-of-the art knowledge, through training and curricula development, to support effective practice across child welfare systems.

The Training Consortium values and promotes excellence in professional training by providing opportunities that enhance development and personal growth in a fully engaged learner-centered environment. We train professionals to be intellectually and ethically informed, develop leadership skills, use creative thinking, and acquire advanced skills and knowledge related to child welfare applications in community settings.

 

What We Offer

The Training Consortium at the University of South Florida provides training and training development and delivery to child welfare organizations across Florida. This includes the opportunity for partnership with DCF, Case Management Organizations, Protective Investigations, as well as agencies providing support services within child welfare and behavioral healthcare.

Available services include but are not limited to:

Provision of Pre-Service training for both case managers and protective investigators by certified child welfare trainers
Organizational needs assessment, organizational culture change, consultation and technical assistance
Design, development and implementation of, research driven, child welfare curricula that addresses identified needs
Design, development and implementation of evidence based, research driven, child welfare curricula that addresses identified needs
In-service training for an array of human services professionals, including those in mental health and medical services who encounter vulnerable populations in child welfare or behavioral healthcare
Team-building communication workshops to enhance organizational performance, solidarity and support for each other and common goals
On-the-job coaching, consultation and ongoing professional development activities for new and experienced child welfare professionals, mental health professionals and support staff serving in the helping professions
Training of agency trainers of substitute care providers and those who recruit and prepare this population to meet the needs of children in care
Provision of a state approved “Train the Trainer” program Trainer Coaching and Competency Program (TCCP) to train and provide readiness and evaluation of Pre-Service trainers. The goal of this program is to accomplish the competencies required for certification as a Pre-Service trainer.

 

How We Do It

   
Assessment consultation, and training provided at your site
Utilization of delivery approaches grounded in established, accepted and experiential training strategies
Through an on-the-job coaching/mentoring component that provides human services professionals behaviorally specific feedback on performance
 
  * Financial arrangements for training and development services are completed through contracts with the Training Consortium, through the University of South Florida.
